Position Overview
A Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for leading the design, implementation, and maintenance of complex systems and infrastructure. They ensure systems meet performance, security, and usage requirements, and provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers. They also align system administration with strategic IT service direction and business needs.
Role & Responsibilities
Systems Administration and Processes
• Set objectives and priorities for system architecture, daily operations, and troubleshooting.
• Ensure system administration aligns with IT strategy and business needs.
• Develop and enforce policies for system security and compliance.
• Create business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses.
• Address business challenges and regulatory requirements.
System Development and Optimization
• Collaborate with stakeholders to propose innovative system solutions.
• Define requirements for new technology implementations and scalability.
• Oversee system design, maintenance, and project management.
• Recommend improvements for performance and cost efficiency.
• Manage hardware/software upgrades and conduct system audits.
• Identify and recommend new technologies and methodologies.
Technical Leadership and Issue Resolution
• Mentor junior engineers and foster professional growth.
• Lead resolution of complex technical issues and provide escalation support.
• Conduct training sessions and share best practices.
• Oversee risk assessments and manage critical system issues.
Team Management
• Manage team operations, including budgeting, work allocation, and staffing.
• Support staff development through coaching and mentoring.
• Establish clear goals and accountability for team members.
• Implement effective performance management practices.
Embedded Systems Development
• Lead design, development, and testing of embedded systems software.
• Create design specifications, test cases, and automation tools.
• Participate in hardware design reviews and ensure security.
• Optimize embedded systems for efficiency and scalability.
• Ensure seamless integration of software with hardware.
Resolve critical/major system-related incidents
• Conduct risk assessments of systems
• Investigate cause of systems issues and resolve issues to ensure uninterrupted operations
• Resolve escalated system-related issues to identify root cause and potential solutions
Security and Compliance
• Ensure systems meet top security standards and comply with regulations.
• Conduct security audits and implement corrective actions.
Technical Advisory and Issue Resolution
• Provide expert technical advice to senior management.
• Lead resolution of complex technical issues.
• Promote best practices in system design and maintenance.
Vendor Management
• Ensure projects adhere to governance principles and standards.
• Manage vendor relationships and resolve high-impact conflicts.
• Track program performance to meet delivery objectives.
• Engage with key stakeholders and manage budgets.
Requirements
- Min Bachelor in Computer Science or equivalent
- At least 2- 3 years in the relevant fields
- Strong windows server administration experience
- Relevant vendor-specific certifications (e.g. Cisco, Microsoft, Oracle, RedHat, Linux etc)
• ITIL Foundation Certification - Able to commit 24/7 standby and support on maintenance activities (after office hours or weekends)
- Open to 2 years direct contract
