Position Overview
The position is to be a lead engineer to support the improvement in resiliency and robustness of enterprise backup & storage infrastructures and implementation & deployment of new infrastructure, technology refresh and upgrade. This is a 2-year direct contract.
Role & Responsibilities
- Backup Implementation & Administration: Backup & Recovery administration and operation support (Veritas NetBackup, Veritas Appliances, Rubrik, Data-Domain Appliances, ECS Appliances)
- Storage Implementation & Administration: Storage implementation and administration of HDS Storage, PURE & DELL SAN Storage, HDS & Isilon NAS Storage, CISCO SAN Switches
- HCI and Virtualization: Understanding on Hyper Converge Infrastructure (HCI) and Virtualization technologies such as VMWare, Nutanix, Hyper-V
- Automation and Observability: Inclination & experience with observability and scripting to automate routine tasks to drive operational efficiency. Review existing storage and backup infrastructure and provide recommendations and plan to improve resiliency, robustness, and performance of the infrastructure as well as save cost.
- Explore new technologies, capabilities and features to improve backup & storage infrastructure.
- Hands-on implementation experience with new technologies and products.
- Perform evaluation of potential backup & storage solutions & technologies, Proof-of-Concept (PoC) and provide recommendation & justification of the solutions.
- Architect and design new backup & storage infrastructure as per industrial best practices to achieve optimal resiliency, performance, and efficient usage.
- Develop methodologies and best practices in implementing backup & storage solutions for Mission Critical Systems
- Design and implement data migration methodology for backup & storage infrastructure across datacenters.
- Lead, implement and deploy new backup & storage infrastructure as well as improvement of existing infrastructure.
- Set up backup administration, storage virtualization, data snapshot, data migration.
- Implement backup and storage solutions to support HCI and Virtualized environments.
- Plan Disaster Recover (DR), and prepare readiness of backup & recovery and storage data replication across datacenters to support DR.
- Integrate backup and storage devices with monitoring, log analysis, security operation, Active Directory, automation, etc.
- Inclination & experience with scripting (strong interest) to automate routine tasks to drive operational efficiency.
- Experience with observability and automation tools/platforms (preferred)
- Automate redundant tasks to improve efficiency in administration & operation support of the infrastructure.
- Create and update operational documents, configuration, and performance health check processes & procedures.
- Perform backup & Storage administration including health-check, monitoring, problem resolution, configuration, deployment, provisioning, zoning, and performance tuning, etc.
- Harden, scan and fix security vulnerabilities and upgrade software & firmware of backup and storage devices
- Own and manage incidents/problems, investigate root cause and provide findings & resolution.
- Recommend process, product or service improvements, resource optimization and cost savings.
- Conduct Knowledge Transfer and training to backup and storage administrators, Backup & Recovery,Disaster Recovery & Planning, Disk Storage Technology.
Requirements
- Holder of Degree in IT / Computer Engineering with more than 10 years of experience in the relevant field.
- Must be a team player with at least 5 years’ experience in architect, design, deployment and administration of storage and backup infrastructure.
- Good knowledge & experience in working on multiple Backup Software and Backup Appliances preferably Veritas NetBackup, Veritas Backup Appliances, Rubrik, Data-Domain Appliances, DELL ECS Backup Appliances, etc.
- Good knowledge & experience in working on multiple SAN and NAS storage products preferably Hitachi, Pure Storage, EMC, Isilon and CISCO MDS SAN switches.
- Good knowledge and experience in HCI, Virtualization deployment.
- Strong knowledge in hardware & systems software administration, data backup & recovery, replication, off-host backup, etc.
- Scripting and automation
- A service-oriented person with effective interpersonal, communication, presentation and negotiation skills
- Good command of written and oral English and ability to communicate clearly with people at different levels.
- Ability to think out of the box and work independently.
- Certifications in backup and storage management will be an advantage.
- Certification in ITIL
