Position Overview

The job scope encompasses the management of DC Rack, network cabling, and DCFM operations, requiring collaboration with stakeholders and service providers for effective project delivery and maintenance support. Key responsibilities include overseeing preventative maintenance programs, proposing improvements for IT governance, and supporting design planning for cloud services. The role also involves monitoring power usage effectiveness, ensuring the functionality of DCIM systems, and managing cabling requirements in alignment with organizational needs. Additionally, the position requires reporting on operational performance, generating progress reports, and ensuring compliance with established procedures for data center maintenance activities.

Role & Responsibilities

DC Rack, Network Cabling, and DCFM Operation Management

  • Liaise and work directly with stakeholders, DC Op Managers and/or DC Service Facilities providers for purpose of project delivery and maintenance support.
  • Liaison with DC Provider/ vendor with regards to utilities, building services / facilities and systems issues, which include Data Center Infrastructure Management DCIM support, Key management system and maintenance.
  • Administrator for preventative maintenance programs to ensure that DC provider carry out the facilities maintenance.
  • Propose continuous improvement initiatives with recommendations to strengthen IT governance & compliance, increase efficiency on work quality and processes.
  • Support design planning and space allocation for prospective Colo and Private cloud service hosting. Recommend acquisition of new technology to enhance DC operational efficiency.
  • Support the management of works conducted within the Data Centres such as site preparation, site survey, network cabling, electrical wiring, air-conditioning, building power supply (including power generator) tests, on-site/off-site standby activities etc
  • Proactive monitoring of the Environmental System Alerts in the Data Centres to ensure they are operating within acceptable level and to escalate promptly to the relevant authority or third-party vendors to rectify any defects alerted. 

DCIM

  • Support DCFM on matters pertaining to all Data Center (DC) projects; this include making arrangement and attend site surveys with vendors, supplier and business Product and suggest feasible solutions to ensure DC’s requirement are addressed or met.
  • Monitor and optimise Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) and overall power consumption within the data centre, ensuring the efficiency of servers and racks meets target power consumption levels.
  • Ensure DCIM systems (Schneider DCIM) are operating as designed to protect the data center, capture power usage, calculate available capacity, and provide meaningful, timely alarms, notifications, and reports to end users.
  • Working knowledge with DCIM which include configuration & Platform support (Windows) of DCIM system applications in support of new data center deployments, new data requirements, including coordinate with product vendor for application upgrade /patching
  • Prepare and maintain DCIM systems support documentation, test plans, and change management records.

Cabling 

  • Knowledge in local structured cabling standards and with working knowledge of Data Center functional areas (MDA, HDA, EDA) and familiarity with data center industry trends.
  • Collaborate with Stakeholders, project managers to develop cabling requirement to meet the organisation’s infrastructure needs.
  • Plan, coordinate with cabling contractors to execute site survey, assess cabling needs for the projects
  • Establish work schedule, monitor work progress on site, examine and certify works done, and to attend Factory Acceptance test, Site Acceptance test and Integrated System Test, if any.
  • Support and oversee new data center project fit-out, additions & alterations works, including SIT/ UAT testing.
  • Ensure project closure and hand over with as-built drawings, schematics and reports, including commissioning of assets. This include witness key commissioning tests on site
  • Enforce adherence to established procedures (SOPs, MOPs, EOPs, PTWs, RAs) and change control processes for all data center maintenance activities.

Reporting and Analysis:

  • Establish operational and performance benchmarks, analyze data, and prepare reports on all aspects of facility operations and maintenance.
  • Generate monthly progress reports and track deliverables.

Requirements

  • Degree in IT and at least six (6) years of working experience in Data Centre Facility Management/Environment
  • Possess broad-based knowledge and skills in the areas of building technology, mechanical and electrical services and facilities management.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of Data Centre infrastructure systems with experiences working on mission critical systems such as UPS, Chiller, CRAC, Thermal /Fan Wall Cooling , Electrical HT/LT, Fire Protection, Water Detection systems, Fire Suppression systems, PDU, CCTV systems, Card Access systems etc.
  • Have good working knowledge for best practices in fire/workspace safety, management, control, and operating a Data Centre hosting services
  • Proficient in Rack and Stack Tasks/ Planning, analysis and forecasting under Data Centre Infrastructure Management
  • Must possess relevant experience in DC facility management and vendor management.
  • ITIL Foundation V4 certified, and Possess Data Centre Certifications such as CDCP and CDCS
  • Working experience in managing & supporting DCIM system; Struxureware Data Center Expert (DCE) Struxureware Data Center Operations (DCO) and IT Advisor (ITA) in support of new data center deployment, and retrofits.
  • Inclination & passionate to automate routine tasks to drive operational efficiency.
  • Familiar with ISO 9001, and ISO 27001, ANSI/TIA-942 Standard will be advantage
