Systems Engineer - Database Activity Monitoring

Position Overview

The Lead Engineer will work with a team of engineers supporting the Database Activity Monitoring (DAM)System, he/she will ensure smooth running of the DAM operations, keeping it in a healthy condition, highly available and comply to the service level agreement and security policies.They will be responsible for the performance of the team in achieving the project and operational KPIs and SLAs both at the team and the individual level.Engage with the team and management, provide sound advice and recommendations on matters related to the DAM System.He/She is confident and decisive in managing or leading projects, overseeing the completion and integration of inter-dependent projects and parts. He has excellent communication skills, capable of effectively influencing various internal and external stakeholders.

This job role undertakes complex projects requiring additional technical knowledge and makes decisions on ambiguous administrative and support issues. He/she applies highly developed specialist knowledge and skills in database administration, especially in terms of database security monitoring and auditing. He/she implements database security monitoring improvements and is capable of instructing other IT staff in the resolution of most complex issues. He is required to be on standby with on-call availability. He/she is able to quickly and effectively solve issues as they arise. He/she is able to methodically identify the cause of the issue, evaluate it and develop a solution in collaboration with the team. He communicates effectively and displays high levels of service standards.

He/She will generate monthly report and support the Lead Engineer to present to management, advice on the system performance and any capacity planning to ensure the system is running at its optimal conditions. Provide inputs on the annual budget to upkeep the system, assist in procurements, ensuring contract with vendors are renewed or refresh with new maintenance and support contract, assist the Lead engineer in managing the annual system hosting cost and any other costing to support the database activity monitoring infrastructure System. Support internal and external auditing activities, ensuring that all security policies are being adhere to and fixes any non-compliant to policies or react to new policies being introduced that have impact to the system.

Conduct briefings to users of the database activity monitoring system, work closely with the users of the database activity monitoring system to fine tune the alerts and policies. Handling expansion or Tech Refresh projects to meet business requirements and ensuring that service level agreement is met. Design, develop and maintain DAM for cloud-based database systems. This includes collaborating with clients to integrate cloud database into the DAM and applying policies to monitor these databases. Actively monitoring security alerts and work closely with clients to ensure that the policies are effectively implemented, and security is maintained efficiently.

Role & Responsibilities

• Execute Database Monitoring Administration Service Levels
• Implement infrastructure and support database security monitoring.
• Perform database security monitoring and auditing.
• Monitor security alerts and work with client to ensure the policies are implemented effectively.
• Manage database activity monitoring report.
• Communicate regularly with technical, applications and operational staff to ensure database integrity and security.Demonstrated analytical skill.
• Ability to work with client to understand requirement and address their database security monitoring needs and use cases.
• Conduct regular policies review.Configure policies base on the standard requirement.
• Identify and resolve Database Activity Monitoring system vulnerabilities.Advise on Database Monitoring Capabilities
• Advise clients on database monitoring concepts and functional capabilities.
• Provide technical advice to the team and clients for installation, setup, configuration of databases activity monitoring.
• Interpret internal or external business issues and recommends solutions/best practices.
• Implement plans to make database monitoring available to users in a shared, secure and controlled manner.
• Participate in research initiatives for the development of advances and automated approaches for database monitoring.
• Optimise Database Monitoring
• Optimise the delivery of database monitoring with emphasis on availability, reliability, scalability, and security.
• Develop automated processes to define, measure, and report on service quality, stability and capacity.
• Resolve Issues:
• Oversee the assessment of risks to databases activity monitoring
• Resolve complex issues.
• Provide escalation support for issues presented by the client.
• The ability to work with diverse and dynamic teams to resolve issues.

Requirements

• Knowledgeable about how Database Activity Monitoring fits into the security and understand the database security concepts.
• Excellent command of written and spoken English is a mandatory criterion.
• Strong communications skills with stakeholders at all levels.
• Strong vendor, service level and project management skills.
• Strong technical knowledge on Database (e.g. Microsoft SQL, Oracle, SAP HANA, MongoDB etc).
• Strong knowledge of Windows/UNIX/Linux server platform.
• Advantageous if have the following technical certifications
• Database certification
• Security related certification
• Experience in using IMPERVA.
