Uni Internship Jan to May 2026 - Enhancing Tandem/In-SYNc at Scale for Public Healthcare

Date: 25 Jun 2025

Location: SG

Company: Synapxe

Synapxe is the national HealthTech agency inspiring tomorrow’s health. The nexus of HealthTech, we connect people and systems to power a healthier Singapore. Together with partners, we create intelligent technological solutions to improve the health of millions of people every day, everywhere.

Are you someone who enjoys problem solving, has a creative and curious mind, and strives to create a better and healthier tomorrow? If you say yes to all, do check out our website and find out more about Internship@Synapxe.

Join Synapxe as an intern and see how you can contribute in powering a healthier Singapore. We aim to deliver the best experience for all interns, to create exponential growth and paving your future in the tech industry.

In Nov 2023, Synapxe has rolled out its very own GenAI platform called Tandem (formerly known as Secure GPT -- see news coverage at https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/health/moh-agency-microsoft-to-develop-ai-tool-for-healthcare-workers-in-s-pore). At the same time, we have also released a GenAI chatbot called In-SYNc to the whole of Synapxe, which is designed to answer questions based on internal documents within Synapxe using retrieval augmented generation (RAG).

As GenAI technologies become more mature and diverse, Tandem/In-SYNc would need to be continually enhanced for better performance and usability. In addition, ""hallucination"" and adversarial attacks are known issues of GenAI technology that may result in harm to end users if the inputs/outputs are not screened properly. The key question is, how do we enhance Tandem/In-SYNc such that they continue to remain useful, relevant and safe as the user base expands over time?

The intern will have a rare opportunity to gain hands-on experience working on a live GenAI platform/application within the public healthcare industry. Given that the GenAI platform/application is live, the requirements may dynamically evolve depending on user requirements.

The candidate will have the opportunity to leverage on our team's public Azure account for their GenAI development work, such as:

  • Experiment with different LLM frameworks to be adopted for healthcare use cases (e.g. LangGraph for efficient routing of queries across different knowledge bases)
  • Experiment with multimodal GenAI capabilities to unlock greater value from organisational data (e.g. speech-to-text technologies for effective transcription of meeting notes)
  • Experiment with different tools for the evaluation of large language model (LLM) responses and mitigation of ""hallucination"" and other known issues in GenAI (e.g. Ragas for evaluating retrieval- and generation-specific metrics)

About you:

  • Be pursuing a Bachelor Degree in Business Analytics, Data Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related discipline
  • Graduating in May/Dec 2026 or May 2027
  • Strong coding skills in Python programming language
  • Hands-on experience with one or more NLP/deep learning frameworks (e.g. PyTorch, Tensorflow)
  • Strong interest in GenAI technologies (Preferred - Use of proprietary LLM with API access (e.g. GPT-4o) and/or open source LLM (e.g. Llama 3))
  • Experience with development tools like VSCode, Jupyter, Git etc.
  • Hands-on software development experience demonstrable using past (Gen)AI projects
  • Have RAG concept and experience on LangChain is prefered
  • Good team player with strong analytical and communication skills
  • Ability to multitask and work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Passionate and keen to make a difference to re-imagine the future of HealthTech
