Project: Model and Application Development on Healthcare Textual Information through Natural Language Processing and Large Language Models
The project's objective is to develop and advance innovative technologies, including the use of large language models (LLMs) and agentic AI, to enhance public healthcare. This initiative will utilize enterprise cloud resources and explore techniques such as retrieval-augmented generation, agentic AI, information detection, topic modeling, and chatbot backend and/or frontend development.
Unstructured information constitutes the vast majority of available data, making natural language processing a crucial area within data science. This field focuses on the automatic handling of text and the extraction of meaning from human languages.
The primary objective of this project is to develop and enhance innovative technologies, particularly through the application of large language models (LLMs) and agentic AI, aimed at improving public healthcare. This initiative will leverage enterprise cloud resources and investigate various techniques, including retrieval-augmented generation, agentic AI, information detection, topic modeling, and the development of chatbot backend and/or frontend.
The selected intern will participate but not limited to the following:
- Investigate a variety of models, including topic models, graph models, and large language models (LLMs), to enhance the understanding and extraction of textual data.
- Developing multi-agentic systems for conversational chatbots to perform diverse tasks.
- Exploring various agentic frameworks and conducting evaluations of both the frameworks and the agents.
- Researching multi-modal LLMs capable of processing text, images, flowcharts, and tables as both inputs and outputs.
- Developing and refining backend API endpoints and/or the frontend of applications utilizing enterprise cloud resources.
The intern will be working in a team-based setting, and learn skills in git for code management, best practices in data engineering and data science pipelines, knowledge in natural language processing and skills in end-to-end LLM workflow development.
Additionally, the intern will learn to collaborate with stakeholders to translate business challenges into data science projects. They will also develop strategies to identify, acquire, and utilise appropriate datasets to create practical solutions that support informed decision-making
About you:
- Be pursuing a Bachelor Degree in Business Analytics, Data Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related discipline
- Graduating in May/Dec 2026 or May 2027
- Strong coding skills in python programming language
- Proficient in Git for code management and collaboration
- Keen interest in Gen AI and their applications in healthcare
- Understand concepts related to embedding and deep learning models
- Hands-on experience in integrating LLMs to python projects through school/personal projects and/or other internships
- Knowledge in API integration, FastAPI, Spring Boot, Java or TypeScript is preferred
- Independent, fast-learner, and self-driven
- Good team player with strong analytical and communication skills
- Ability to multitask and work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
