Project: Migration of MOH Statistics Bulletin for healthcare decision-making

The MOH Statistics Bulletin contains comprehensive service utilisation data of all restructured hospitals/institutions, polyclinics, and private sector acute hospitals. It serves as a convenient single-source-of-truth (SSOT) for healthcare planners, administrators and professionals to monitor the activities and patient load of hospitals/clinics and health services over time. The data also supports planning for future demand of health services by the Ministry. As the data source for the MOH Statistics Bulletin is migrating, MOH Health Analytics Division (HAD)’s intern will support the migration through assisting with the development of data processing scripts, reports and data validation checks.

Additionally, MOH HAD also develops dashboards and reports for policy divisions to track key indicators and identify implementation gaps for their policies and programmes. The selected HAD intern will assist with the development and enhancement of these products, examples include the Statistics Bulletin, Sitrep dashboard, NSPC dashboard, Primary Care Monitoring Bulletin, Mental Health dashboard, and Polyclinic and SOC Monthly Wait Time Report. MOH HAD is concurrently developing a Centralised Data Asset Repository (CDAR) in HEALIX, which will enable lay users to easily find indicators and self-service to create their own dashboards. HAD intern will further assist with this development e.g. collating inputs for requirements specifications and performing user access testing. As an interim solution while CDAR is being developed, MOH HAD will develop a chatbot to improve the accessibility of the existing Excel Indicator Catalogue by enabling users to easily explore healthcare indicators such as hospital admissions and waiting times using natural language queries. The selected HAD intern will assist with data preparation and application testing for the chatbot.

The selected intern will participate in, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Perform data extraction, transformation, and data validation checks on post-migration figures by comparing against historical bulletins to ensure that data accuracy is maintained.
  • Develop reports on Excel to ensure that bulletin tables are presented in a clear and consistent manner.
  • Develop and enhance dashboards and reports to support decision-making and improvement of the Singapore healthcare system.
  • Process bulletin data into a machine-readable format and test the chatbot's functionality within the Indicator Catalogue Data Assistant to ensure accurate response generation.
  • Gain a deeper understanding of the Singapore healthcare system, how our healthcare system’s performance can be measured, and the importance of tracking these indicators.
