Uni Internship Jan to July 2027 - Automating Data Center Network & Security Operations

This intern will be joining the Cloud team and focus on working with the Data Center Network and Security team to design and implement an automation framework for BAU tasks such as firewall updates, VLAN provisioning, and access control changes. The project involves building a framework using tools like GitLab CI/CD, Ansible, Python, and Jinja2 to standardize configurations, reduce manual effort, and improve auditability and compliance. The intern will develop reusable automation workflows integrated with existing ITSM processes to enhance efficiency and reliability.

The selected intern(s) will assist in following:

1) Automation Development

• Design and develop Ansible playbooks for automating BAU network and security changes (e.g., firewall rules, switch configurations, etc)
• Create Python scripts to support automation workflows, data transformation, and API integration (if applicable)
• Develop Jinja2 templates for generating standardized configuration files
• CI/CD Pipeline Integration
• Build and manage GitLab repositories for version control of automation scripts
• Implement GitLab CI/CD pipelines to execute automation jobs in a controlled and auditable manner
• Configure automated validation, testing, and approval workflows

2) Process Optimization

• Analyze existing BAU change procedures and identify automation opportunities
• Propose optimized workflows for request handling and execution

3) Reporting & Visualization

• Develop HTML-based dashboards or reports for:
  - Automation job results
  - Change request tracking status
  - Execution logs and audit trails (config drifts, hardening compliance, etc)

4) Testing & Validation

• Perform functional testing of automation scripts in lab or staging environments
• Validate configurations before and after deployment
• Ensure rollback mechanisms are in place

5) Documentation

• Document standard operating procedures (SOPs) for automated processes
• Create technical documentation, user guides, and onboarding materials
• Maintain code documentation and version history in GitLab

About You:

• Undergraduate currently in Year 2 or Year 3, pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Network Engineering, Information Security, or a related discipline
• Basic understanding of networking concepts such as TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, and switching
• Familiarity with network security concepts including firewalls, ACLs, and network segmentation
• Basic knowledge of Python programming and scripting
• Familiarity with Git/GitLab, Ansible, or CI/CD concepts is an advantage
• Exposure to API integration, automation frameworks, or infrastructure automation is a plus
• Basic knowledge of HTML and templating concepts (e.g. Jinja2) is advantageous
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills
• Good communication and documentation skills
• Proactive, self-motivated, and able to work effectively both independently and in a team environment
• Ability to multitask and work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team 
• Passionate and keen to make a difference to re-imagine the future of HealthTech
