Uni Internship Jan to July 2027 - Generative AI for clinical genomics applications

As an intern you will join the Data Science & AI team to explore the application of Generative AI in clinical genomics and precision medicine. Advances in next-generation sequencing (NGS) have made genome sequencing increasingly accessible in clinical practice, enabling the identification of clinically actionable variants to support personalised treatment recommendations and pharmacogenomic insights. This internship focuses on leveraging genomic data, genomic databases, bioinformatics tools, and Generative AI technologies to support the generation of clinical genomic reports. Interns will have the opportunity to work on real-world healthcare and genomics applications while collaborating with experts in precision medicine.

The selected intern(s) will assist in following:

• Perform genomic data parsing and preprocessing to support downstream analysis and reporting
• Conduct genomic database searches and information retrieval through API integrations
• Support genomic data annotation using bioinformatics tools and established workflows
• Develop and refine prompts for Large Language Models (LLMs) to support clinical genomics applications
• Assist in fine-tuning and evaluating LLMs for genomic report generation and related use cases
• Explore and implement Agentic AI solutions for clinical genomics workflows
• Support the integration of AI-powered solutions with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems where applicable
• Collaborate with Precision Medicine experts to support research, development, and evaluation activities related to clinical genomic reporting

About You:

• Undergraduate currently in Year 2 or Year 3, pursuing a degree in Business Analytics, Business Artificial Intelligence Systems, Information Systems, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, or a related discipline
• Proficiency in Python programming, with experience in data processing and model development
• Hands-on experience with deep learning frameworks (e.g. PyTorch)
• Familiarity with Large Language Models (LLMs), including prompting and fine-tuning techniques
• Familiarity with version control tools (e.g. Git, GitHub)
• Exposure to Agentic AI concepts or frameworks is a plus
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g. Microsoft Azure) is an advantage
• Exposure to genomics or bioinformatics domains, including relevant databases or tools, is a plus
• Strong documentation skills, with the ability to clearly record project materials such as research, code, results, and findings
• Effective communication skills, including the ability to present insights and results clearly
• Independent, fast-learner, and self-driven 
• Good team player with strong analytical and communication skills 
• Ability to multitask and work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team 
• Passionate and keen to make a difference to re-imagine the future of HealthTech
