Uni Internship Jan to July 2027 - Model development for audio signal classification

As an intern you will join the Data Science & AI team to develop and evaluate predictive models using audio data for healthcare applications. This internship provides an opportunity to work with real-world datasets and enterprise cloud resources, while exploring machine learning and signal processing techniques to support healthcare-related use cases.

The selected intern(s) will assist in following:

• Perform exploratory data analysis on audio datasets to understand data characteristics and quality
• Support sample diarisation and preparation of audio data for model development
• Conduct data cleaning and preprocessing activities to improve data quality and usability
• Apply data augmentation techniques to enhance model robustness and performance
• Investigate, implement, and benchmark different model architectures for audio signal classification
• Explore and optimise fine-tuning strategies for selected models
• Perform hyperparameter tuning to improve model performance
• Evaluate model performance and conduct error analysis to identify areas for improvement
• Support hypothesis testing and analysis to validate model outcomes and findings

About You:

• Undergraduate currently in Year 2 or Year 3, pursuing a degree in Business Analytics, Business Artificial Intelligence Systems, Information Systems, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, or a related discipline
• Proficiency in Python programming, with experience in data processing and model development
• Experience working with audio signal data is an advantage
• Knowledge of deep learning concepts and frameworks (e.g. PyTorch) and familiarity with common deep learning algorithms
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g. AWS) is preferred
• Understanding of statistical methods, including hypothesis testing and basic statistical analysis
• Familiarity with version control tools (e.g. Git, GitHub) is a plus
• Strong documentation skills, with the ability to clearly record project materials such as research, code, results, and findings
• Effective communication skills, including the ability to present insights and results clearly
• Independent, fast-learner, and self-driven 
• Good team player with strong analytical and communication skills 
• Ability to multitask and work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Passionate and keen to make a difference to re-imagine the future of HealthTech
